THE BIBLE AND THE DESTINY OF MAN
1/19/17 - 1 Presented by: Nightengale Ben-Onyeukwu

Devotional Text: Isaiah 1
INTRODUCTION:
According to the BBC English Dictionary, “someone’s destiny is everything that will happen to them, especially when it is considered to be controlled by someone or something else.’ In the beginning GOD created mankind with a destiny of fortunes and prosperity, conditioned by choice, {Gen 2:8-9}. However, man’s wrong choice earned him a destiny of misfortunes and retrogression, {Gen 3}. Since then, the destiny of man has been conditioned with good and bad. Good, when he obeys GOD {Deut 28: 1-14}, and bad, when he disobeys, {vs. 15-45}. To this end, GOD’S WORD upholds that, one who becomes wiling and obedient, eats the best of the land, but one who resists and rebels is devoured by the sword, says the LORD, {Isaiah 1:19-20}.

GENERAL REMARKS

             {1}       Man’s destiny goes positive when GOD is obeyed, {Deut 28:1-14}
{2}       Man’s destiny, however, goes negative when GOD is disobeyed, {vs. 15-45}
             {3}       Man’s destiny cannot be controlled by demonic powers or evil men, as they can
                          only attack or fight it, and this eventually leads to its fulfilment, {see Gen 45:4-8}
             {4}       Man’s destiny, at times, may appear to be negative, but GOD uses all things to work out the good of the destiny, {vs. 4-8; Rom 8:28}
MAN’S DESTINY AND FATE
The biblical concept of destiny does not connote “fate”.  Fate is usually considered a predetermined course of events beyond human control, and a typical response to a belief in fate is resignation, since nothing can change it. This idea of destiny is called fatalism, and it is not biblical. In Hinduism, for instance, it is the fatalistic view of life that keeps India’s caste system in place, a practice which is certainly “man’s inhumanity to man”, which the Holy Bible kicks against, as it says, “there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in CHRIST JESUS, [Gal. 3:28}. GOD’S WORD, shows that destiny is a matter of choice, which can make or mar an individual who makes a decision. In this connection, the Holy Scripture clearly teaches that, one who keeps GOD’S WORD goes with a positive destiny, as one who thinks otherwise carries a negative one, [see Deut 28:1-45]. By this, therefore, this lesson reaffirms that:
(i)                    Obedience to GOD’S WORD brings good to one’s destiny, as rebellion brings misfortune to it, [Isaiah 1: 19-20]
(ii)                  It is the LORD GOD who controls man’s destiny, and makes appropriate changes based on one’s attitude, [vs. 19-20]
(iii)                 A negative destiny can be redirected to the point of fortunes and prosperity if a deviant turns a new leaf, [vs. 19-20]
MAN’S DESTINY AND HIS FREE WILL
From a Google source, the writer gathers that, the Bible teaches that Man was created with the ability to make moral choices and that he is responsible for those choices. The Fall of Man was not a predetermined event in which Adam and Eve were hapless victims of a Puppet-Master God. On the contrary, Adam and his wife had the ability to choose obedience (with its attendant blessing) or disobedience (with its consequent curse). They knew what the result of their decision would be, and they were held accountable (Genesis 3). This implies that man’s destiny is certainly in man’s hand, and equally shows that he possesses the power to exercise his GOD-given will for his good or channels it to his hurt. In other words, people often have a destiny they bring upon themselves. For, “he who sows wickedness reaps trouble” (Prov 22:8a). “All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty” (Prov 14:23).  Therefore, those who exercise their will:
                [i]        As enemies of the CROSS of CHRIST have a destiny of destruction, [Phil 3:18-19]
   [ii]       For adultery lacks judgment, and destroy their destiny” (Prov 6:32).
   [iii]     Wrongly should better be informed that they will be judged according to what they have done, [Rev. 29:13]
MAN’S DESTINY AND THE CHRISTIAN BELIEVER
The Christian believer is called for the purpose of GOD, which is often characterized by good and bad, which the Holy Scripture says will altogether work for the good that GOD plans for him, {Rom 8:28}. Therefore, the believer needs not to worry when the seemingly undesirable plays up, since GOD in His sovereignty controls all things, and would by such things work out the believer’s expected end, {Jere 29:11}. However, the believer should equally know that sin is a breach of GOD’S plan for one’s life, and so, should avoid it, as GOD’S WORD remarks that, “righteousness exalts a nation, by sin is a reproach”, {Prov 14:34}. According to our source, “many who choose to sin often reap its negative consequences, and foolishly blame it on the LORD or fate” {Prov 19:3}. The above narrative simply shows that:
(i)                    The Christian believer can mar his destiny by way of indulging in sin, {Prov 14:34}
(ii)                  One should not blame the LORD or fate when one is the cause of one’s negative destiny, {Prov 19:3}
(iii)                 The Christian believer should, as well bear in mind that the choice to sin, is equally the choice
 to a negative destiny {Prov 14:34}.
In conclusion, let it be reaffirmed that GOD originally created man with a destiny of fortunes and prosperity {Gen 1:26-28}, but man by his choice of sin brought upon himself a destiny of misfortunes and retrogression, {Gen 3}. But, JESUS CHRIST our BLESSED LORD and SAVIOUR through HIS atoning death on the CROSS brought restoration and hope back to man, that is, those who would believe and receive HIM as the LORD of their lives {See Col 1:27}. This means that believers in CHRIST are by HIS atoning death restored to a destiny of blessings, but can lose it by returning to a life of sin. RESTORE YOUR DESTINY TODAY!

1/19/17 - 1 THE BIBLE AND THE ACCUSER OF BRETHREN
Presented by: Nightengale Ben-Onyeukwu

Devotional Text: Rev. 12:10

INTRODUCTION:
According to the Holy Scripture, Satan is “the accuser of our brethren”. In keeping with this biblical truth, David J. Stewart remarks that Satan does not accuse the sinful world, or the haters of GOD. He does not accuse the rejecters of CHRIST and blasphemers. He equally does not accuse humanists, witches, liberals, false prophets and modernists...but accuses Christians, that is, the born again, referred to as “our brethren”. And so, when the ungodly or sinners accuse others, they manifest the character of their father, the devil, who is “the accuser of our brethren”. To this end, Steve Wallace cautions that one thinks soberly before blasting off charges against anyone or believing any accusations made by someone, but rather learns to make assessment and comments on people based on the fruits of their lives, and not on accusations they have heard, {Matt. 7:20; Gal. 2:14}.

GENERAL REMARKS
(1)       Satan is the accuser of brethren, as well as the mastermind of every accusation(Rev. 12:10)
(2)       One who pedals accusations works in collaboration with Satan and his demonic kingdom (vs. 10)
(3)       Accusations can be based on truth, half-truth or outright falsehood, and they all are the handiwork of Satan, {vs. 10}
(4)       Accusations stem from fault-finding spirit, and fault-finding is the devil’s stock in trade, which the believer should
avoid, {vs. 10}
THE ACCUSER OF BRETHREN AND HIS ACCUSATION
In the words of D. Roberts D. D., an accuser is not necessarily an enemy, a friend may be an accuser; but his relationship depends on the object of his accusation. If his intention is to harass and vex, then, he is an enemy, but if his design is to reform, then, he is indeed a friend. But Satan “the accuser of our brethren”, {Rev. 12:10} is never a friend, but a constant enemy, who constantly accuses our Christian brethren before GOD, and all those who engage in false accusations act as such, {2 Tim. 3:3}. In this connection, the Holy Scripture admonishes the believer to be of holy behaviour, instead of false accuser {Titus 2:3}.  And so, the Christian believer should learn to  be loving and friendly when an accusation turn out to be true, and like JESUS seek ways of helping the accused out of the problem, instead of condemning him, {see John 8:3-11}. By this, therefore, this lesson further opines that:
(i)        Satan is indeed the accuser of our brethren and the mastermind of every accusation, (Rev. 12:10;John 8:3-6)
(ii)      He often plots the downfall of people in order to accuse them, (vs. 6)
(iii)     In most cases he bring up false accusations against the people of GOD in an attempt to destroy or bring them down,
(Acts 25:17-18)
THE ACCUSER OF BRETHREN AND THE ACCUSED
The accused is someone, one claims has done something wrong. According to the Webster English Dictionary, “to accuse” is “to charge with or declare that one has committed a crime”. In the Holy Scripture, Job serves as a good example of the accused. Though, a good man, as GOD HIMSELF testifies, yet Satan accused him without recourse. In the same way, Satan induces people to accuse others. Biblically speaking, Job’s brethren accused him falsely, {4:7-8}. The Pharisees toed the same path against our LORD and BLESSED SAVIOUR, JESUS CHRIST, {Matt. 12:22-24}. Furthermore, in the words of Steve Wallace, “among the sins characteristic of the “last days” is that some will be false accusers { 2 Tim. 3:2}, which indicates that anyone, believer or non-believer could be a “false accuser” where Satan is allowed to have his way. In line with the foregoing, this lesson equally establishes the biblical truth that:
(i)        A good or innocent fellow could be accused falsely, (Job 4:7-8)
(ii)      False accusation is not new to the Christian faith, (Matt. 12:22-24)
(iii)     The accused Christian should always ensure that accusations against him remains false,  (Acts 25:13-18)
ETERNAL REWARD OF FALSE ACCUSERS
Eternal reward of false accusers cannot be well explained, if the biblical expression which stresses that King Darius commanded and they brought those men who accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives, and the lions had mastery of them, and broke all their bones in pieces... {Daniel 6:24} is not cited, as the Scripture brings to the fore, the devastating danger which awaits those who, with Satan, engage in false accusation. And, be informed that Satan, who is the prime accuser of our brethren is already drafted to hell, and, no doubt, those who share the same propensity with him will definitely share the same fate, {see Rev. 20:10; 21:8}. Based on the above assertion, please note that:
(i)        False accusers are lairs who will definitely have their part in the lake of fire, (Rev. 21:8)
(ii)      They are part of those who love and make a lie that would not be allowed into the Kingdom of Heaven, (22:15)
(iii)     Lying tendency, which is the nature of the devil {John 8:44} is what stirs up false accusation {2 Tim. 3:3}, and
 leads to eternal destruction, {Rev. 21:8}.
In conclusion, once again notice that Satan is “the accuser of our brethren” {Rev.12:10}, as well as the brain behind all who accuse others falsely, {2 Tim. 3:3}, and this, should be avoided. Notice, also that false accusation has negative consequences on earth {Dan 6:24}, and carries eternal punishment hereafter, {Rev.21:8}. NOW, YOU KNOW!

1/19/17 - 1THE BIBLE AS THE WORD OF GOD
Presented by Nightengale Ben-Onyeukwu

                                   Devotional Text: Ezek. 3:1-3; 2 Tim. 2:15

INTRODUCTION:
The Bible is the WORD of GOD (1 Thess. 2:13), and the WORD of GOD is the Word of Life (Phil. 2:16), which the Apostle Peter also refers to as the WORD of Eternal Life, (John 6:68). In His own assertion, JESUS says, the WORD of GOD is Life and Spirit designed to build up the lives of those who receive it (vs. 63), and this, concretises the importance of the WORD. Furthermore, the WORD of GOD is a cleansing agent (John 15:3) capable of purifying someone who pays attention to it (Psalm 119:9), as well as equips those who study it for the work of the ministry (2 Tim. 2:15).

GENERAL REMARKS

(i)              The WORD of GOD is quick and powerful, (Heb. 4:12)
(ii)            The WORD of GOD has been with GOD from the beginning, (John 1:1-2)
(iii)           The WORD of GOD is GOD, personified in CHRIST JESUS, (vs. 1-2)
(iv)           The WORD of GOD is the means of all creation, (v. 3-4)
THE WORD OF GOD IN THE OLD TESTAMENT
The WORD of the LORD to prophet Ezekiel, ... “eat this scroll, then, go and speak to the house of Israel (Ezek. 3:1) portrays the biblical truth that GOD wants HIS people to equip themselves with HIS WORD before engaging in ministration. According o Adams Clarke, the cited portion of the Scripture simply means, “receive MY WORD, and let it enter your soul, digest it, as well as let it be your (Spiritual) nourishment. Let it equally serve as meat and drink to your soul –to enable you do the will of your Father who is in heaven. “This, the prophet responded to, as he says, “so I opened my mouth and HE gave me the scroll to eat” (vs. 2), which implies that, it is the prerogative of the LORD to feed or give HIS people the word(s) or message(s) they are to minster to others. Again, the LORD said to Ezekiel, “son of man, eat this scroll which I am giving to you and fill your stomach with it”... so I ate it” ... (vs. 3); which therefore, becomes a biblical yardstick that:
(i)                    A religious message is not the WORD of GOD when it is not initiated or given by the LORD, as such a message or word amounts to misinformation, resulting from falsehood, (Ezek. 3:1-3)
(ii)                  It is the duty of the receiver of the word or message of the LORD to assimilate or digest it for appropriate purposes, (vs. 3)
(iii)                 Also, in Christian Faith today we should learn to study and meditate on GOD’s WORD, as we have in the Bible, for the nourishment of our souls, as well as for preaching purposes,(vs. 1; 2 Tim. 2:15)
THE WORD OF GOD IN THE NEW TESTAMENT
The WORD of GOD in the New testament is linked to that of the Old testament, since most of the New Testament prophets, apostles, Evangelists, pastors or teachers quoted the Old Testament Scriptures in their ministerial acts, (see 1 Cor. 9:8-9). And, even our LORD and GREAT SAVIOUR, JESUS CHRIST quoted the Law, Prophets and Psalms in HIS preaching (Luke 24:44-45), which shows that there is no difference between the Old Testament Scriptures and that of the New Testament. This makes the concept in some religious quarters that certain divisions of the Bible are more scriptural than others a baseless one, since the WORD of GOD is the same forever, (Psalms 119:89). Also, note that no other book of religion apart from the Bible is, or should be regarded as the WORD of GOD, as none of these books has the seal of the Holy Spirit, which is the unique mark of the Bible, (2 Tim. 3:16). Having cited the above, now establish the biblical fact that GOD’s WORD in the New Testament Scripture carries the same power and efficacy as that of the Old Testament. To this end, this lesson cites that as the WORD of GOD is cited as:
(i)              The means of creation in the Old Testament (Gen. 1:1-2), so it is in the New Testament, (John 1:3-4)
(ii)             The means of Divine Healing in the Old Testament (Psalm 107:20), so it is in the New Testament, (Matt. 8:5-13)
(iii)           GOD’s means of keeping away from sin in the Old Testament (Psalm 119:11) so it is in the New Testament, (John 17:17), etc.
THE WORD OF GOD AND THE PREACHING OF THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST
The Gospel of JESUS CHRIST is GOD’s platform for the propagation of HIS WORD. And, if the Gospel must produce GOD’s results, it must be centred on the undiluted preaching of the WORD, and not human tales or quotes from great writers/philosophers of the world, since the LORD only confirms HIS WORD (nor ideology) with signs and wonders following, (Mark 16:20). In other words, GOD’s fingerprint can only be impressed in the Gospel when it is purely Word –based. This, therefore implies that as the WORD of GOD is the WORD of Life (Phil. 2:16), the Gospel of CHRIST should be the Gospel of Life, giving life to the spirit, soul and body of the individuals who receive it, and where it is not so, it becomes questionable if the real gospel had been presented. In this connection, this lesson asserts that the Gospel of CHRIST should:
(i)        Present the WORD of GOD and not fiction, (2 Tim. 4:2)
(ii)      Stir in recipients word-based faith and not human ideology, (Rom. 10:17)
(iii)     Come with practical demonstration of the POWER of GOD and not enticing words, (1 Cor.2: 4-5)

In conclusion, this lesson has, indeed re-enacted the biblical truth that GOD’s WORD is the same in both the Old and New Testament Scriptures and carries no less power in any of the testaments. Also, in the preaching of the Gospel of CHRIST, the lesson strictly advocates the need to make it a word-based gospel, against the baseless presentation of tales informed by human ideology or philosophy, which carries no efficacy or power, and so, holds out the need to “Preach the Word, in season and out of season, (2 Tim. 4:2), JESUS IS LORD!
